Ultrared by Paco Rabanne, in spite of the different name, is officially a special edition of Ultraviolet. The difference however is not only in the name and in the bottle (with a shape of a halved lentil, instead of a futuristic gun), but also in the notes: much sweeter and loaded with fruits. The impression here is that the connection with Ultraviolet is quite arbitrary.
The opening of the perfume is loaded with red fruits, like strawberry, cherry and red berries. The tone is quite sweet and gourmand, not only for the sugar of the fruits, but also for an extra note of caramel (marshmallow is among the declared ingredients). There are also notes of star anise, which tame the sweetness giving its typical chilled aroma. In the middle phase, some of the fruits lower their intensity especially strawberry – in favour of cherry. According to the Paco Rabanne website at this point there should also be a floral note of jasmine, but a distinct freesia can also be felt. Gradually, the florals stand out more and the sweet notes end up in the background, with an extra note of vanilla. The structure will remain unchanged throughout the base notes.
Although the florals are fresh enough for the summer, the gourmand style is warm and suitable for the winter. Strawberry and cherries always manage to give out a cheerful image, which in this case remains mature without feeling too teenage. Also, the mix of fruity and florals give this Ultrared by Paco Rabanne a more social attitude.
Overall, the style is quite different from the aromatic and almost classic one, of the typical parfum Paco Rabanne like One Million for men, or Lady Million for example. For a romantic use, the gourmand notes in perfumes are always attractive and sensual, and will be felt even in crowded places, with the presence of other perfumes and odours of the environment.
