Perfume review: Petits and Mamans for Women by Bulgari

Petits and Mamans by Bulgari was launched in 1988 and it’s a quite unique fragrance. It was especially created to be worn by women both during pregnancy, and after the birth of the baby, when both, mother and baby (“Little ones and Moms” is the meaning of the name), would find normal fragrances too strong. Other than having a soft aroma, the fragrance is made with ingredients that won’t irritate the skin of the baby- and it’s of course alcohol free. The bottle has the classic cylindrical shape of Bulgari perfumes at that time, and the declared notes are: petit grain (an essential oil extracted from the plant of bitter orange), mandarins, peach, iris and vanilla.

The opening is quite soft, with a note of neroli which quickly changes to soft florals. In the middle phase, after about one hour, a note of violet develops (it reminds of the one in Jo Malone perfume Lotus Blossom and Water Lily). After about two hours, the aroma is still very soft, with a line of camomile, which tame the intensity of violet, leaving room to soft and indefinite florals. The base is with water and citrus notes of bergamot, with also powdery herbal notes. In the final phase, the aroma will lose intensity, with violets and iris standing out among the florals, and with a soft vanilla in the background with a general idea of talcum powder.

As expected, the perfume will leave almost no trial behind, and is intended for a personal rather than social use. The low intensity and the lack of negative impact it will have on delicate skins and noses of the babies will allow frequent applications. For the same reasons, it is difficult to imagine different occasions where it could be used, like a work environment or a night scenario.
