The Smartphone market in the UK has become increasingly competitive. From the Apple iPhone’s continued dominance of the market, through to competition from Samsung, Blackberry and Sony, among many others, consumers face multiple choices. A wide number of phone and contract providers also means that users have to weigh up the decision to upgrade, or stay with their current phone company. In this way, the quality of phones has arguably had to increase, while finding ways to distinguish between different models. The following list represents, in no particular order, some of the most popular Smartphones currently available in the UK.
1 – Apple iPhone 4S
Still the undisputed Smartphone leader in terms of brand recognition, the Apple iPhone 4S was launched last year as an extension of the company’s series of sophisticated phones. With super fast processors, cameras, and the addition of talking assistant Siri, the 4S has so far successfully built on the reputation of previous iPhones by refining its core features. While Apple rely on a closed system of apps for its platform, the range of software available online makes it the first choice for many users.
2 – Samsung Galaxy Nexus
The first Android equipped phone to use the Ice Cream Sandwich Operating System, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus works effectively like a mini tablet, with high resolution and super fast connectivity through its handset. One of the few phones that can stake a claim to truly competing with Apple in terms of functionality, speed and apps, the Galaxy Nexus also boasts in built Google Plus and excellent video chat features.
3 – Orange San Francisco II
An excellent entry level Smartphone, the Orange San Francisco II is compatible with the Android platform, and boasts a limited, but still effective set of features for more budget conscious Smartphone users. These features include a 5 megapixel camera, a widescreen touch video display, 3G connectivity, FM radio and an MP3 player, and a selection of apps that include iPlayer and Facebook. Backed by an 800 MHz processor, the San Francisco II represents good value for money.
4 – Blackberry Bold 9900
Blackberry’s main strength has always been its flexibility and sleekness of design. The new 9900 series benefits from a 1.2 GHz processor, ad well as an updated Blackbery 7 OS. Able to rapidly communicate and sync up multiple Blackberry devices, advanced augmented reality and location finders that use GPS and mobile networks, as well as a HD video recorder make the Blackberry a concise but high performance alternative to other phones.
5 – Sony Xperia S
The Xperia S is most notable for linking up to a range of other Sony products. With a 1.5 GHz dual core processor, a 4.3 inch HD display, a 12 megapixel camera, and HD video capture, as well as 32 Gb memory, the Xperia provides impressive video viewing in sharp detail. Moreover, Sony have designed the SIM less Xperia to link up to its Sony Entertainment Network and the Playstation, as well as featuring SmartTags that sync up multiple personal settings between devices.
